BackboardPro® Installation Guide

Backboard Mounting (2-Panel System)

(This guide covers mounting the BackboardPro panels only. Dartboard installation is covered separately.)

Overview

BackboardPro is supplied as two 1 m × 1 m rigid Foamex panels. The panels are mounted directly to the wall using industrial-grade mounting strips, providing a clean, flush, professional finish with no visible fixings.

This method is widely used in the signage industry for mounting rigid display panels.

Recommended Mounting Products

Use one of the following:

Option 1: 3M Dual Lock (SJ3550 or equivalent) — Strong mechanical interlock, allows repositioning if needed, ideal for DIY installs

Option 2: 3M VHB (5952 or similar) — Permanent bond, ultra-flush finish, professional signage standard

Use continuous strips — not pads or dots.

What You'll Need

  • 3M Dual Lock or 3M VHB mounting strips
  • Spirit level
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Clean cloth (for surface prep)

Panel Layout

The BackboardPro installs as:

[ 1 m Panel – Top ]
[ 1 m Panel – Bottom ]

Each panel is mounted independently using mounting strips.

1

Prepare the Wall & Panels

Ensure the wall surface is:

  • Clean
  • Dry
  • Dust-free

Wipe the rear of both panels and the wall with a clean cloth.

Allow surfaces to fully dry before applying strips.

2

Apply Mounting Strips to the Panels

Apply strips vertically to the rear of each panel.

Recommended strip layout (per panel):

  • Left edge
  • Centre line
  • Right edge

Optional: One horizontal strip along the top edge for extra reassurance

Key points:

  • Use long, continuous strips
  • Avoid small pads or dots
  • Aim for consistent spacing

Press each strip firmly onto the panel for 30 seconds.

3

Mount the Bottom Panel

Measure and mark the position of the bottom panel on the wall.

Use a spirit level to ensure accuracy.

Remove the strip backing.

Offer the panel up to the wall.

Press firmly across the entire surface.

Hold pressure evenly to ensure full engagement.

4

Mount the Top Panel

Position the top panel directly above the bottom panel.

Either:

  • Butt the panels neatly together, or
  • Leave a small, consistent gap (1–2 mm)

Check alignment with a spirit level.

Press firmly to engage the strips.

Once mounted, the two panels visually read as a single backboard.

5

Final Press & Set

Apply firm pressure across:

  • All edges
  • Centre areas

Ensure both panels sit flat and flush.

Curing:

  • 3M Dual Lock: ready once engaged
  • 3M VHB: allow 24 hours for full bond strength

Finished Result:

✔ Two panels mounted flush to the wall
✔ No visible fixings
✔ Clean, professional finish
✔ Ready for dartboard installation

Dartboard & Surround Installation Guide

For Use with BackboardPro®

Overview

This guide explains how to mount a standard bristle dartboard and a dartboard surround onto an installed BackboardPro.

The dartboard is fixed through the BackboardPro panels and into the wall using the dartboard's supplied mounting hardware.

What You'll Need

  • Dartboard (with supplied fixing kit)
  • Dartboard surround
  • Drill
  • Drill bits suitable for your wall type
  • Spirit level
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Wall plug(s) as supplied with your dartboard
1

Mark the Dartboard Centre Height

Measure 173 cm (5 ft 8 in) from the floor.

Mark this point on the BackboardPro — this is the bullseye height.

This measurement is regulation height and should be taken from the finished floor level.

2

Position the Dartboard Mount

Most dartboards use a central wall bracket or screw.

Align the dartboard mounting bracket so that:

  • The dartboard bullseye will sit on the 173 cm mark
  • Lightly mark the fixing point(s) through the bracket.

At this stage, the marks will be on the BackboardPro surface.

3

Drill Through BackboardPro

Using a suitable drill bit:

  • Drill cleanly through the BackboardPro
  • Continue into the wall behind
  • Insert the supplied wall plug into the wall.

Note

BackboardPro is rigid Foamex and drills easily.

Drill slowly to maintain a clean hole.

4

Fix the Dartboard Mount

Secure the dartboard mounting bracket or screw into the wall plug.

Ensure it is:

  • Firm
  • Straight
  • Level

The fixing must be wall-supported, not reliant on the BackboardPro alone.

5

Hang the Dartboard

Locate the metal mounting disc or fixing on the rear of the dartboard.

Hang the dartboard onto the mounted bracket or screw.

Rotate the board so that the 20 segment is at the top.

Check with a spirit level if needed.

6

Fit the Dartboard Surround

Place the dartboard surround over the dartboard.

Push firmly until it sits evenly against the BackboardPro.

Adjust so that:

  • The surround is concentric
  • The dartboard remains level

Most surrounds are friction-fit and require no fixings.

Final Checks

  • Bullseye height: 173 cm
  • Board level and secure
  • Surround seated evenly
  • BackboardPro undamaged and clean

Notes

  • Dartboard fixings must always be secured into the wall behind, not the BackboardPro alone.
  • BackboardPro is designed to be drilled where required for dartboard mounting.
  • Surrounds are removable and do not require drilling.
